ABOUT THIS REPORT

Amidst the global economic slowdown, countries in Asia Pacific are laying out legal and technology infrastructures to upgrade their payment systems. This development is reflected in the shift of payment instruments used by consumers, companies and banks as well as the increased use of electronic payment systems. The Asia Pacific Payments Databook provides statistics of payment instruments and system usage in each of the countries and regions covered.

In line with how non-cash payment transactions are conducted, this report addresses the use of payment instruments and terminals by consumers, use of Interbank Retail Payment System, and use of RTGS respectively. Each section includes statistical tables detailing volume of transactions, value of transactions, volume and value of transactions per capita (for transactions by consumers), and transaction value as percentage of GDP. The report also discusses the statistics related to volume of cards issued and payment-related terminals located in each country.

To assess the progress of each country towards a non-cash payments as well as non-paper-based payments entity, the report also discusses the total volume and value of non-cash payment transactions, non-paper-based payment transactions as well as relevant indexes by country.
